Safiya Ghori

Safiya Ghori "received her B.A. in Political Science and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Arkansas in 2002. During her undergraduate studies she interned for Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) and participated in the Washington Leadership Program sponsored by the India Abroad Center for Political Awareness. Safiya traveled to India with the Indian Muslim Relief Committee and participated in relief efforts in impoverished areas of rural India. In addition, Safiya also studied Arabic at Al-Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco.

"Safiya earned her JD/MA in May 2006 from the University of Arkansas and will be taking the Bar Exam in February. Her MA is in Political Science with a specialization in International Development. While in Law school, Safiya clerked for the Arkansas Attorney General in the Public Protection Division and worked on fraud and discrimination cases. Safiya was also the Equal Justice Works Fellow and worked at the Tahirih Justice Center in Falls Church, VA. Safiya researched and administered VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) and asylum cases for Muslim women who were victims of domestic violence. Safiya has always been active with the Young Democrats and has volunteered on the Clinton campaign in 1996." [1]
