Sadie Canning (MBE)

"Sadie was one of the stolen children who grew up at Mount Margaret Mission, and was the first Aboriginal Matron appointed in WA. She always encouraged young girls to pursue nursing and her concern for her patients has earned her wide esteem.

"In 1964 Sadie was awarded an MBE and in 1977 she was awarded the Queens' Silver Jubilee medal. She is also a member of the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation." [1]
