"The mission of this site is media criticism and reform. It was started in September 2014 by a group of expats living in Russia who felt that coverage of Russia is biased and inaccurate." [1]

On the "donate" page of Russia Insider they write:

"Minimum donations of $200 USD or more are tax deductible in the US." "Make checks payable to "Consortium for Independent Journalism" (or CIJ) and write on the memo line: "Russia Insider"." [2]

Criticism

Professor Anton Shekhovtsov explained on his blog that Russia Insider publishes "pieces of Russia's disinformation warfare against the West and Ukraine." He also observes that it may be funded by "Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeev via his associate Alexey Komov." [3]
