Russell Andrews
"Russell was previously the Deputy Chief Executive of Rushey Mead Education Trust. Prior to this, he was a Deputy Director at the Department for Education, working at the National College for Teaching and Leadership, with responsibility for business transformation and delivery plus responsibility for commercial activity including initiatives to improve school leadership.
"He was also previously a Director at the Education Funding Agency and at Partnerships for Schools where he led educational planning for England’s secondary school rebuilding programme ‘Building Schools for the Future’, a 20 year, £50bn rebuilding programme.
"Graduating originally as an Engineer, Russell worked in the nuclear industry for a number of years before entering teaching in 1983. He taught for 15 years in inner-city secondary schools in the north of England then held senior posts for improving educational outcomes for learners in Bury, Leicester and Nottingham local authorities.
"Russell’s passion is school improvement and he is a regular speaker at conferences in the UK and abroad on school transformation and design. He is a governor at the Brockington Academy and has a strong interest in the challenges of transforming learning and inclusion for all learners, particularly in the inner-city context. He also sits on the Leicester CofE Diocesan Board of Education and is an Ambassador for the Transformation Trust which brokers corporate and social responsibility projects for blue chip companies wanting to support schools with children from low-income families.
"Russell has three children, one of whom was an undergraduate at Manchester Metropolitan, and in his spare time enjoys walking and listening to music.
