"He might be retired, but Dr Roy Green shows no signs of slowing his involvement in the science and environment sectors. Currently Chair of the WA Government Taskforce for Greenhouse and Energy, Chair of the Swan River Trust Technical Advisory Panel and on the Technical Advisory Committee of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, Dr Green believes his knowledge of science and environment policy development at both national and international levels may be of great use to the Premier’s new Science and Innovation Council, as will his experience in managing and setting priorities for research.
"Roy Green’s professional evolution is based in research; he spent 15 years as a research scientist in both government and industry before being appointed to the Commonwealth Public Service in Canberra in 1975. For more than a decade, he advised state and Federal governments on all aspects of science, technology and environment.
"He joined the CSIRO as Director of the Institute of Natural Resources and Environment in 1988 and ended his time there as Chief Executive/Acting Chief Executive of CSIRO in 1996.
"Dr Green has served on many Boards and Committees both here and abroad. Notably, he was the Australian delegate to the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and the OECD Committee on Science and Technology Policy, he chaired working groups on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, which reported to Government on Ecologically Sustainable Development, and chaired the Heads of Marine Agencies.
"After retiring, he chaired the $30M National Land and Water Resources Audit, was President of the Murray Darling Basin Commission, and served two terms as Deputy Chair of the Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority.
"Dr Green is an Officer of the Order of Australia, a Fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and has been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science by Curtin University of Technology." [1]
