Biographical Information
"Prof. Dr. Rita Süssmuth was born on February 17th,1937. She is married and has one daughter. Studies in Romance languages and history in Münster, Tübingen and Paris. Professor, International Comparative Education Science, University of Bochum, Professor of Education, Dortmund University, Director Research Institute "Woman and Society", Hannover, honorary professor, University of Göttingen.
"She is member of the CDU, 1971-85 Member in the Advisory Council for Family Affairs of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Youth and Health; 1985-88 Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Youth and Health; 1988-98 President, German Federal Parliament; 1987-2002 Member of the Bundestag; until 1998 President, European Movement Germany; since 1997 Member of the advisory council of the Bertelsmann Foundation; 2000-03 Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE; sinde 2002 Chair, Independent Council of Experts on Immigration and Integration, Appointed by the German Government.
"Her honorary doctorates include 1988 Hildesheim University, 1990 Ruhr University of Bochum, 1994 University of Veliko Tarnovo, 1995 University of Timisoara, 1996 University Sorbonne, Paris, 1998 Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, 1998 Ben Gurion University of Beer Sheva."[1]
