Riki Ott

Riki Ott, PhD, is a community activist, a former commercial salmon "fisherm'am," and has a degree in marine toxicology with a specialty in oil pollution. She experienced firsthand the devastating effects of the Exxon Valdez oil spill--and chose to do something about it. She is the founder of three nonprofit organizations that deal with lingering harm from the man-made environmental disaster [1]. Ott's background in toxicology and experience as an individual who lived through the Exxon Valdez incident in 1989 has been helpful to those experiencing the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill in 2010. Ott was touring New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, educating people about the toxic effects of the spill, and helping them prepare for the long fight ahead to hold BP accountable [2].
