Reemstma was a privately-owned German cigarette group in 1991, and one of the biggest international tobacco marketers in 1994.[1] The full name is Reemtsma Cigarettenfabriken GmbH. In 2002, the European Union Commission cleared the takeover of Reemtsma by Imperial Tobacco Company for 5.8 billion euros.[2]
The merger with Imperial Tobacco created the world's fourth-largest tobacco company, behind Philip Morris, British American Tobacco andJapan Tobacco International (JTI).
Reemstma's brands include West, Davidoff and Peter Stuyvesant.[3]
