Biographical Information

"Rebeca Rios Kohn is an international consultant on human development and human rights. A native of Uruguay and a French citizen, she has over 25 years experience in human development and is a recognized expertise in human rights. Trained as a lawyer in the U.S., and after practicing law in Virginia and New York, she joined International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF/WHR) as an advocate for population policies and reproductive rights throughout the Americas and the Caribbean region. Thereafter, she held several senior level positions with UNICEF and UNDP in the area of external relations, policy and in promoting child rights and human rights. She has written a number of articles and academic papers for law journals, and developed studies and training materials for UNICEF, UNDP and others on a wide range of issues such as child rights, the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the human rights-based approach to development. In recent years she has worked as a consultant to UNICEF, UNDP, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, UNFPA, the Organization of Youth for Iberoamérica, and other international non-governmental organizations. As a consultant, she has worked in numerous countries around the world including Bolivia, Cambodia, Jordan, Mali, Morocco, Panama, Peru, Ukraine, Montenegro, Nepal, Serbia, Tanzania, and Vietnam."
