Raul F. Yanes was named May 31, 2006, by President George W. Bush to be Assistant to the President and Staff Secretary. Yanes was serving as General Counsel in the Office of Management and Budget and previously served as Senior Counselor to the Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice. From 2003 until 2005, he was an Associate Counsel to the President in the Office of Counsel at the White House.
Prior to joining the Bush administration, Yanes was a partner at the New York City law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell. He clerked for Judge John L. Coffey of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit from 1991 to 1993. Yanes received his bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College and his J.D. from Harvard Law School. [1]
