Rachel A. Volberg, Ph.D. is a sociologist with expertise in gambling. She established Gemini Research in 1992, an organization that specializes studying gambling and problem gambling in the community.

Biography

Dr. Volberg has a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California San Francisco. Dr. Volberg has studied the prevalence of problem and pathological gambling, including its causes and social impacts. She has authored or co-authored numerous articles on gambling issues, including 37 research reports on the prevalence of problem and pathological gambling in several states, provinces and foreign countries. She produced a 1996 report to the Mississippi Council on Compulsive Gambling on gambling and problem gambling in Mississippi. Dr. Volberg has received 38 grants and contracts for the study of gambling in various states, has testified on gambling issues before several state and foreign legislative bodies, and has given over 35 presentations on problem gambling at national and international conferences on gambling issues.
