Project Trust is the UK's original Gap Year provider. Established in 1967, we have over 40 years experience and have sent over 6000 volunteers to over 60 countries. "“The idea that became Project Trust was born in Ethiopia but it was the result of a chance meeting in Aden in the 1960s.”
"So begins the tale of Project Trust’s conception as told by its founder, Nicholas Maclean-Bristol OBE, a man who over 6000 people, of all ages and walks of life, are now indebted to for having provided the means to embark on the first great adventure of their lives.
"The story begins with Major Bristol serving in Aden (then a British colony) with the King’s Own Scottish Borderers in the early Sixties. The chance encounter mentioned above was with an old school friend, Prince Alexander Desta, the grandson of the Emperor of Ethiopia. During Desta’s fleeting official visit, both men rekindled their friendship and Major Bristol soon found himself invited to visit Ethiopia. Due some leave in any case, the Major accepted the invitation and joined Desta on his journey back to Addis Ababa."[1]
