Philippa Atkinson "is a Tutorial Fellow in the Department of International Relations, London School of Economics. Her expertise is in complex emergencies, war economies, food aid policy, principal aid, and peace building, and participatory policy research especially with a focus on Liberia and Sierra Leone. She spent time working in Liberia on aid policy research in the 1990s and is currently completing a PhD thesis on the historical background to the Liberian conflict, the dynamics of the political economy of the conflict itself and the nature of the international political and humanitarian responses to it."
