Paul Epstein, "a partner in Proskauer Rose LLP's Corporate Department, has considerable experience in legal matters related to Israel. For more than two decades his practice has involved the counseling of Israeli companies doing business in the United States, as well as Israeli and non-Israeli companies doing business in Israel.

"In 1967, when he first joined Proskauer, he became involved in the representation of the investment syndicate, led by Edmond de Rothschild, that owned the Eilat-Haifa pipeline and, in 1968, he was part of the team of lawyers that represented the syndicate in its sale of the pipeline to the Israel Government.

"In 1970, in connection with his participation in the representation of Israel Discount Bank Limited in the United States, he was involved in the complex transaction by which IDB Bankholding Corporation was created and its shares offered publicly in exchange for shares of the Bank and of PEC Israel Economic Corporation.

"Not long thereafter, he was selected by the Board of Directors of The Israel Corporation to be a member of the Inquiry Committee that investigated a massive embezzlement of funds from that Corporation and from its subsidiaries. The investigation, involving the examination of covert transactions among Swiss and German banks and Liechtenstein trusts, ultimately achieved the recovery of virtually all of the embezzled funds.

"Paul has represented great friends of Israel, such as Edmond de Rothschild and Leonard Bernstein and, in the course of his association with them, has been intimately involved in their Israel-related activities.

"Paul represents the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in various matters and is both general counsel to and a member of the Board of its American Friends organization. He is a Trustee of the Hebrew University.

"He has been involved in the US representation of the Dan Hotels Corporation, Osem, IFTRIC (The Israel Foreign Trade Risk Insurance Company), Israel General Bank and a number of companies within the Clal group.

"A graduate of Harvard College and of Harvard Law School, Paul also has a Master of Arts degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Arts & Sciences (Regional Studies-Middle East) and attended the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as a special student. In 1967, upon the completion of his studies, he joined Proskauer, and in 1974 he was elected to partnership." [1]
