Orion Power Holdings is a wholly owned subsidiary of RRI Energy (Reliant Energy), which acquired Orion in 2002 for $2.9 billion. At the time Orion owned and operated more than 80 primarily fossil-fueled power plants in New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania with a combined generating capacity of about 5,900 megawatts (MW), with an additional 5,000 MW of capacity under construction or development.[1] Orion Power Holdings, Inc. was jointly owned by affiliates of Goldman Sachs & Co. and Constellation Energy Group.[2]
