Norman W. Heimstra, Ph.D. was a Council for Tobacco Research Special Projects recipient, and was a psychologist at the University of South Dakota. He has testified for the Defense in tobacco cases

Biography

Dr. Heimstra was born on October 14, 1930.(UCSF000146-172)

Dr. Heimstra was part of Council for Tobacco Research's "Special Project #4" as a consultant and as responsible for preparing a statement regarding public smoking.(Council for Tobacco Research Special Projects - Brown & Williamson Binder)

Dr. Heimstra was the Professor Director, Human Factors Laboratory, Dept. of Psychology, University of South Dakota, Vermillion, South Dakota. In 1974, Dr. Heimstra applied for a grant, No. 982, from Council for Tobacco Research (CTR) for "Effects of Smoking Deprivation or an Risk/taking Behavior". Prior to 1974 Dr. Heimstra had been awarded several small Council for Tobacco Research grants which were considered by the CTR to be productive. In 1974 he held CTR grant No. 898 "Effects of Smoking Depravation on Group Problem Solving."
