Appointed to the board of Anglovaal Mining "in 2001 Nir’s career has been primarily focused in the diamond industry. He is presently the managing director and chief executive officer of the Steinmetz group of companies, the world’s leading diamond ‘sight-holder’, and of its South African subsidiary, Ascot Diamonds (Proprietary) Limited. Nir is a past chairman of the Master Diamond Cutters Association and is currently vice chairman of the International Diamond Manufacturers Association. He is also a past member of the National Economic Forum of the African National Congress." [1]
An educationalist, a globetrotter, a goodwill ambassador, an explorer, a sports enthusiast, a music lover, these are just some words that may begin to describe a tip of the iceberg for Nir Livnat. Having more than two decades of experience in the world of diamond businesses, he is considered an expert for his in depth knowledge of rare and fancy diamonds. He is now dedicated to exploring new markets, expanding the diamond industry, creating innovative employment opportunities, and sharing his passion for the earth’s most beautiful and precious natural resource with the world.
Having started his journey by first procuring his Degree in Arts from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, he then went on to acquire a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in Economics, Business Administration, Mathematics, and information Systems.
His work experience covers a huge spectrum in the diamond industry. Starting from R.Steinmetz and Penford in Belgium and Israel from the year 1989 to 1990, he then moved on to administrating the responsibilities as Managing Director for Ascot Diamonds Ltd, which is a highly regarded large diamonds cutting company in South Africa. Nir Livnat was associated with this company that specialized in rare and large diamonds from 1990 to 1997, after which he took pride in being the Managing Director and CEO of the Steinmetz Group of Companies from 1998 to 2007. From 2007 to the present date, he is functioning as an Executive Chairman for the same group.
In the time that Nir has been in the diamond business, he has also represented some associations. He was the Chairman of the Master Diamond Cutters Association from 1995 to 1997. He has also been an active Member of the National Economic Forum of the African National Congress for the years 1993 and 1994.
In this journey of more than 20 years, he has not only been the goodwill ambassador for the company with refinement and distinction, but also a guide for the procurement of rough diamonds, and the manufacturing and sale of polished diamonds. He has been particularly adept at marketing exceptionally rare, large diamonds whose demand has been unabated at the world’s most prestigious auction houses. Being accountable for the overall finances and image of the Group, Nir is always on the go making him a global citizen of the world.
