Dr. David Larson was president and principal founder in 1991 of the National Institute for Healthcare Research in Rockville. In August 2002 the not-for-profit research organization was renamed the International Center for the Integration of Health and Spirituality. "With key financial backing by Sir John M. Templeton, the British-born philanthropist, Dr. Larson's organization gave nearly $1.3 million to Harvard and Georgetown universities, the universities of Virginia and Chicago and others for programs to study health and spiritual issues."
