Muneer A. Satter
Muneer Satter "is a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs in the Principal Investment Area (the "PIA") which manages the firm's private equity investments. The PIA is one of the largest private equity investors in the world, investing in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Muneer joined Goldman Sachs in 1988 and became a Partner of the firm in 1996. He sits on the Investment Committee of the PIA and he is the Global Head of the Mezzanine Group.
"Muneer serves on the Boards of CCC Information Systems, Inc. and Grupo Clarin, S.A. He also serves on the Board of the Nature Conservancy. Muneer received a B.A. from Northwestern University, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.“ [1]
In 2008 he joined the board of Northwestern University. His biography noted: "Satter joined Goldman Sachs in 1988, moved to London in 1992 to start up and co-head the firm's merchant banking group in Europe, and became a Partner of the firm in 1996. He is the Global Head of the Mezzanine Group, which manages over $14 billion of assets and he is senior member of the Investment Committee of the PIA. He is Co-Chairman of the Board of Diveo Broadband Networks, Inc., and serves o the Boards of CCC Information Services Group, Inc., and Grupo Clarin, S.A. He is Co-Chairman of the Board of Room to Read (which is building 1,500 schools and libraries per year in underdeveloped countries) and is on the Executive Committee of the Board of the Nature Conservancy where he chairs the Finance Committee overseeing a $2 billion endowment. Satter received a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and a JD/MBA from Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School." [2]
In 2007 Mitt Romney announced that Satter was a member of his Romney for President Global Competitiveness Policy Advisory Group. At the time Satter was a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.[3] In June 2012 "Muneer Satter, who built the world’s largest family of mezzanine funds at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS), is leaving the bank after 24 years, according to two people familiar with his plans. Satter, 50, is departing to spend more time with his family after commuting for the past 12 years from his home in Chicago to Goldman Sachs’s headquarters in New York, the people said, asking not to be named because his move hasn’t been announced publicly. Satter, who serves as one of the co-chairs for U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s national finance committee, became a partner at Goldman Sachs in 1996 and oversees a team of about 20 people who work in the firm’s merchant bank... At the local level, he has contributed to Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel, Open Secrets data show. He sits on the board of World Business Chicago, the city’s not-for-profit economic- development corporation whose chairman is Emanuel." [4]
