Mona N. Mikhail, "a graduate of Cairo University, has received her Ph.D from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She served on the Faculty of the University of Michigan, and Princeton University before joining New York University where she has been teaching Arabic Literature and Women Studies.1973- to the present.

"She has lectured extensively throughout the U.S. Europe and the Middle East, S.E. Asia, China amongst others. As a Fulbright Scholar she also taught summer courses in Universities in Malaysia. She also was a visiting Professor at Rutgers University, and most recently at the American University in Cairo (AUC) in 2006.

"Prof. Mona Mikhail has been featured numerous times in feature articles , T.V. and radio interviews in the major U.S . European and Egyptian newspapers, and magazines.

"The social, and cultural dimensions of the Arab East and North Africa as well as the literatures produced in North America, and Europe by second generations are the main focus of her interests.

"The role and status of women in the Arab world as reflected in both literature and the Mass media , film theater and soap operas, as well as Children's literature are a major focus of her research and publications.

"Professor M.Mikhail has served on numerous professional Boards, notably on the Board of the largest organization in the profession, MESA (Middle East Studies Association). She served several terms on the Governing Council of the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE). She was elected President of American Association Teachers of Arabic (AATA), as well as President of the Women Faculty Caucus (WFC) at New York University.She has also served on the Editorial Boards of several major periodicals notably IJMES (International Journal Middle East Studies), and AATA .

"She is a founding member of the oldest Egyptian American Organization (EAPS) and also served as its Vice president for a number of years, as well as its member of the Board. She also was member of the Board of the Arab American University Graduates (AAUG). She is also a founding member of the Islamic Cultural Society (now known as Islamic Heritage Society in New York). She also served as member of the Board and Cultural Chair.She represented AAUG as an NGO ECOSOC (United Nations).

"Dr. Mikhail is receipient of several prizes for her work. She recived the Pegasus Prize for translation, as well as the Columbia University Translation Center, and the P.E.N. Prize.More recently in 2005 her book SEEN and HEARD A Century of Arab Women in Literature and Culture was awarded the CHOICE prize as Outstanding Academic Title." [1]
