Biographical Information
"Professor Mohan Munasinghe is an SCI Professorial Research Fellow and Professor of Sustainable Development at The University of Manchester. In 2007 he shared the Nobel Prize for Peace, as Vice Chair of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-AR4). Currently, he is Chairman of the Munasinghe Institute of Development (MIND), Colombo and Honorary Senior Advisor to the Sri Lanka Government.... Highlights from 40 years of distinguished public service include participating in high level policy making, as Senior Energy Advisor to the President of Sri Lanka, Advisor to the United States Presidents Council on Environmental Quality, and Senior Advisor/Manager, World Bank. He also has hands-on field experience in over 60 countries, working on projects involving climate change, disaster management, economics (macro and micro), environment, energy, information technology, telecommunications, transport, urban infrastructure, and water resources.
"He is well known for theoretical and practical contributions to trans-disciplinary research - especially for proposing the Sustainomics framework for making development more sustainable, which he first presented at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. " [1]
"He is also Board Member of Green Cross International, Switzerland; Member of the Club of Rome, Switzerland; Member of the International Advisory Board, Sustainable Consumption Institute, Univ. of Manchester, UK; Director of the Canifex International Socio Economic Development Centre (Canadian non profit foundation); and founding-Director of both the World Energy Efficiency Association (WEEA) in Washington DC, and the New Sun Foundation in Geneva. He is Patron and Founder of the Lanka Society for Sustainable Development (LASS), and President-Emeritus and Founder of the Sri Lanka Energy Managers Assoc. (SLEMA). He serves on the Editorial Boards of several international periodicals, including Advances in Climate Change Research; Ambio; China Population Resources and Environment; Climate Policy; Encyclopedia of Energy; Encyclopedia of Earth; The Energy Journal; J.
