Mitch Zeller is a former FDA employee who assisted with investigation of tobacco companies and nicotine after ABC Day One segment claims of nicotine spiking.
Biography
The FDA continued its investigation quietly. It went on over more than two years, with the work of a number of top agency staff members. One of them, Mitch Zeller, still sounds astonished when he talks of how much the FDA learned from the companies, and how fast. "Because the companies were so worried about the ABC report - they seemed very defensive -- I think they welcome the opportunity to explain themselves. Philip Morris called up and asked us to come down to their plants in Richmond. I believe they though that the kind of "spiking" mention this ABC report was the center of our investigation. It wasn't." (Smokescreen, pg. 185-186)
