Biographical Information

"Spanish-born Miguel has had a life-long love of cooking and good food... He first became interested in the world of nutrition whilst learning about the therapeutic use of foods in the Ayurvedic tradition during his Yoga teacher training with the British Wheel of Yoga. His inquisitive mind led him to study Nutritional Medicine, completing a BSc Honours (First Class) at University of West London. His Honours dissertation was on the protective effect of different foods from endothelial dysfunction and their application in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. He has more recently studied Functional Diagnostic Medicine with Drs Grisanti and Weatherby at The Functional Medicine University and FMTown, and has continued to explore an integrative model of healthcare via his studies with the Institute for Functional Medicine, having completed the “Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice” programme in May 2012. Miguel is very keen to explore the relationships between our physical body and our psyche/emotions. He studied NLP with Taoist Master Kris Deva North and has been delving into the exciting subject of Clinical PNI (psychoneuroimmunology) with the Natura Foundation. He is currently looking at a number of study paths to deepen his knowledge of this area and how its application in clinical practice. In the meantime, he has been accepted for a Fellowship in Anti-Ageing, Regenerative and Functional Medicine (FAARM) by the The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, leading to an (ABAARM) Certification by The American Board of Anti-Aging & Regenerative Medicine.

"He runs two busy London Nutritional Therapy Clinics – No 1 Harley Street and Belsize Health, Belsize Park and an evening and weekend clinic in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire. His specialist areas include hormonal/endocrine health, as well as the nutritional support of optimal gastrointestinal and skin health. He also runs a specialist weight loss clinic where he devises individualised programmes to suit the individual’s needs. He works with Master Clinical Hypnotherapist Monica Black, as well as with several London-based GPs and Consultants, including a top Neurologist, who routinely refer patients to him for integrative management of their health.

"Miguel has recently (January 2013) been appointed Clinical Director at the Optimum Health Clinic in London, the number one clinic in Europe for the integral management of M.E., Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. The Optimum Health Clinic is internationally acclaimed for its innovative approach of systematically researching and testing all available approaches, and integrating them together in the most effective way. With over half the clinic team having themselves had personal experience of M.E./C.F.S./Fibromyalgia, the clinic is also well known for its caring and empathic approach.

"Miguel also works at nutrition-based retreats by Detox International. He believes in learning by experimenting and he’s been a vegan, a “pescetarian” and is now a lover of all things “paleo”/”hunger-gatherer”, with a 21st century twist. This gives him a varied range of first hand experiences to draw from and, hopefully, inspire you to make choices that resonate with who you truly are. He works with Positive Psychologist Andy Roberts of Breathe London to deliver this inspiration to a range of communities across London – from blue chip corporates to small charities via corporate wellness events.

"Miguel was an Academic Tutor at the Institute for Optimum Nutrition from 2010, where he had the opportunity to research the neuro-endocrine/neurologic aspects of stress-related diseases, including Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / Adrenal Exhaustion. He now lectures to all 3 Years on a regular basis, covering liver detoxification, cardivascular disease, and oxidative cellular damage as a result of environmental exposure and epigenetics. He is currently writing a book chapter on the biochemical changes triggered by stress during pregnancy, both on the mother and the unborn baby. He also has a Clinical Supervision and Lecturer role at the School of Psychology, Social Work and Human Sciences of The University of West London. Alongside his academic and clinical commitments, Miguel provides research support to academics and clinicians across Europe through his ongoing collaboration with scientific publisher Springer and offers consultancy services to a selected handful of ethical, functional nutrition companies.

"Miguel is Chairman of BANT, the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy. As Chair of BANT Council his aim is to help every BANT member attain the highest standards of integrity, knowledge, competence and professionalism in the practice of Nutritional Therapy.

"Miguel holds a full NTC Certificate of Competence by the Nutritional Therapy Council, is a full member of BANT and is registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council, the only register for Nutritional Therapy recognised by the Department of Health. He’s also registered on the NHS Directory of Complementary and Alternative Practitioners for GP referrals and is a Senior Associate Member of the Royal Society of Medicine. As a fully insured integrated healthcare professional, Miguel will be only too happy to work collaboratively with you, your GP and your existing healthcare team, as necessary. He is fluent in Spanish, French and Italian and is happy to conduct consultations in any of these languages." [1]
