Michael Purpura
Michael Purpura was named June 8, 2007, by President George W. Bush to be an Associate Counsel to the President and Special Counsel to the President[1] in the Office of Counsel.
Purpura, a "former corporate fraud prosecutor"[2] who recently served as Senior Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice, was "a top aide" to Deputy AG Paul J. McNulty, who "resigned amid the controversy over the firing of U.S. Attorneys."[3]

"Earlier in his career, [Purpura] served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Hawaii and as an Assistant United States Attorney in the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. Mr. Purpura received his bachelor's degree from the United States Military Academy and his JD from the Columbia University School of Law."[4]
