Michael Pertschuk was a Commissioner of the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) circa 1984.
Biography
Michael Pertschuk is former chairman of the Federal Trade Commission in 1984.(E. Whelan 1984). He stated, "There never has been a health hazard so perfectly proven as smoking, and it is a measure of the [[[Council for Tobacco Research]]'s] success that it is able to create the illusion of controversy in what is so elegantly a closed scientific case."(Wall Street Journal, 2/11/93).
After he left the FTC, Perschuk ran the Advocacy Institute, an antismoking group.(Wall Street Journal, 3/30/94). Lawyers for the American Tobacco Company filed a subpoena circa 3/94 for access to the membership list of a computer network used by the Advocacy Institute. The Institute sought to quash the subpoena.(WSJ 3/30/94). The Advocacy Institute was located at 1707 L Street, N.W., Suite 400, Washington, D.C., 20036.(Castano Expert List)
