Michael Porter was an academic at Monash University in Australia when he set up the Tasman Institute. His earlier attempt at establishing a right-wing think tank in Australia, the Centre of Policy Studies (probably a subsidiary of the UK one, established by Keith Joseph and Margaret Thatcher), had been based at Monash University but then lost its funding.
The Tasman Institute is also now defunct; it was a free-market economics-based think tank which was created in 1990. It later merged with ACIL Consulting to form ACIL Tasman and then later became ACIL Consulting, and now Allen ACIL Consulting.
