Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia
The Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia (MIFA) (which was formerly known as the Schizophrenia Fellowship's Council of Australia) describes itself as the national body to "support and represent people with a severe mental illness and their carers."
History
On its website MIFA states that it commenced informally in 1986 "as an association of the various state and territory Schizophrenia Fellowships then in existence ... In 1995, the process of National Incorporation was commenced with the agreement of all members of the group. In November 2001 our name was changed from the Schizophrenia Fellowships' Council of Australia to the Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia." [1]
