Biography
Melinda A. Simmons was vice president of marketing for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, the domestic tobacco subsidiary of RJR Nabisco, Inc., circa 1999. Simmons joined the company in 1984 as a marketing assistant for the brand Winston. She was promoted to various positions within marketing between 1985 and 1995,and became marketing director in June 1995. In January of 1996, Simmons was named General Manager of Moonlight Tobacco Company, a subsidiary of RJR that marketed offbeat "microbrew" brands of cigarettes.[1] In March 1998, Simmons was promoted to vice president of marketing. Simmons was a current member of the Association of National Advertisers. A native of Ventura, California, Simmons earned her bachelor's degree in English from the University of California Berkeley, and masters of produce and promotional management from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Simmons was born in July 1953. She and her husband, Terry Dean, have one daughter, Amanda Paige.[2]
