MLA has ties to the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). According to an August 2013 ALEC board document obtained by The Guardian, the law firm terminated its membership on March 19, 2013.[1]

On June 18, 2004, the Department of Homeland Security "issued the first ever certifications under the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies Act of 2002 (SAFETY Act) for Teledyne's Brown Engineering's (Teledyne) WaterSabre(TM) and Michael Stapleton Associates' (MSA) SmartTech(TM) and Explosive Detection Teams (EDT) anti-terrorism products and services. McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP (MLA) provided essential assistance related to the SAFETY Act applications filed by Teledyne and MSA to secure certification from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)."
