Ties to the American Legislative Exchange Council

MLA has ties to the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). According to an August 2013 ALEC board document obtained by The Guardian, the law firm terminated its membership on March 19, 2013.[1]

About ALEC
ALEC is a corporate bill mill. It is not just a lobby or a front group; it is much more powerful than that. Through ALEC, corporations hand state legislators their wishlists to benefit their bottom line. Corporations fund almost all of ALEC's operations. They pay for a seat on ALEC task forces where corporate lobbyists and special interest reps vote with elected officials to approve “model” bills. Homeland Security

On June 18, 2004, the Department of Homeland Security "issued the first ever certifications under the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies Act of 2002 (SAFETY Act) for Teledyne's Brown Engineering's (Teledyne) WaterSabre(TM) and Michael Stapleton Associates' (MSA) SmartTech(TM) and Explosive Detection Teams (EDT) anti-terrorism products and services. McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP (MLA) provided essential assistance related to the SAFETY Act applications filed by Teledyne and MSA to secure certification from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)."
