"Martha Phillips sits on the boards of several organizations including [[Redefining Progress, the Concord Coalition, Common Cause and the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters. From 1992 to 1999, she served as the founding executive director of the Concord Coalition, a bipartisan grass roots organization begun by former Senators Paul Tsongas (D-MA) and Warren Rudman (R-NH) to work for a balanced federal budget and long term sustainability of entitlement programs. She worked on Capitol Hill for many years, and was the Republican staff director of the House Budget Committee and the deputy director of the House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees taxes and such programs as Medicare, TANF, Social Security, SSI and unemployment compensation. She is married, has three grown children, and currently resides in Litchfield, Connecticut." [1]
