Martha Perske was a gifted pencil-art illustrator who also acted as a pro-smoking advocate and industry "attack dog."

Biography

Martha Perske communicated with scientists and employees of the public affairs departments of R.J. Reynolds and Philip Morris. John Hoel of Philip Morris referred to her in an email as "a great ambassador" and discussed coaching her in how to respond to Philip Hilts, a reporter at the New York Times [1]. She was involved in attacking the National Cancer Institute funding of University of California San Francisco professor Stanton Arnold Glantz.
