Biographical Information
Mark Parris "is a retired career foreign service officer with service in the Near East and the former Soviet Union Mr Parris was U.S. Ambassador in Turkey from 1997 to 2000 and also served as special assistant to the president and senior director for Near East/South Asian affairs at the National Security Council. Since leaving government, he has been active in U.S.-Turkish NGO work and has written and spoken widely on Turkey, U.S.-Turkish relations and the state of the Turkish oil industry. In 2002, he acted as a Counsellor on the Turkish Research Programme at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. He was also a founding director of Brookings` "Turkey 2007" project and was later active in Brookings` ongoing work on Turkey. Mr Parris is a magna cum laude graduate (BSFS) of the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service " [1]
