Mark Lyons "is Professor of Social Economy in the School of Management at the University of Technology, Sydney, and co-director of the Australian Centre for Co-operative Research and Development (ACCORD). He has a PhD from the Australian National University and has researched and published in the fields of Australian history, social policy and social economy. From 1986-1989 he was Executive Director of the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS). He has been the director of three nonprofit companies and is currently the director of two others. He was the foundation chair of Australian and New Zealand Third Sector Research.

"Mark has been a member of the Prime Minister's Round Table on Business/Community Partnerships, the Reference Group on Welfare Reform and the Australian Statistics Advisory Council. He is a member of the Senior Editorial Board of Voluntas and an Associate Editor of Nonprofit Management and Leadership. His book Third Sector - The Contribution of Nonprofit and Cooperative Enterprise in Australia, the first comprehensive study of Australia's third sector, was published by Allen & Unwin in February 2001. He has a particular interest in the governance of nonprofit or third sector organisations, especially in the relationship between members and directors. He is a member of the Council of Governors of the Asia Pacific Philanthropy Consortium. In 2001 he obtained a grant of $780 000 from the Ford Foundation for a study of the governance of third sector organisations in six Asian countries. Overall in the past five years, he has won over $2 million in grants." [1]
