Maria McFarland is Human Rights Watch's Deputy Washington Director. She "conducts advocacy before the U.S. government on a wide array of global human rights issues, including, in particular, matters related to the Middle East and North Africa, South Asia, and Central Asia."[1]

On Egypt

McFarland is a signatory to a January 2011 letter to the Obama Administration about the situation in Egypt[2]. Many of the other signatories are well-known neoconservatives, including Elliot Abrams, Rob Satloff, Robert Kagan and Scott Carpenter.[citation needed]
