Mamoon Syed
Mamoon Syed is the executive director of the Nawawi Foundation.
"Mamoon was born in Saudi Arabia in the mid 1970s to parents from Karachi, Pakistan. He spent most of his youth in London, England and later moved to the United States in the 1980s while a sophomore in high school. Upon graduation in Atlanta, he moved to Minneapolis, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Journalism/Mass Communication (1996) and a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota (Twin-Cities) (1999). He is proficient in Urdu and has a working knowledge of Arabic.
"Mamoon brings solid management experience and proven leadership skills to the Foundation. Most recently, he served as Director of Educational and Organizational Development at Mercy Health System, a non-profit, fully-integrated healthcare delivery system with over 3,500 employees, 50 clinical sites, and $400MM in revenues, where he worked from 1999 until joining the Foundation. In this role, Mamoon led and implemented transformational strategies that decreased turnover by over 50% and increased staff satisfaction levels to the top 6% in the country.
"Mamoon has dedicated himself to a variety of Muslim and civic causes outside of his professional and student responsibilities. He co-founded the Muslim Youth of Minnesota and American Muslim Health Professionals. He also served as the President of the Muslim Students Association at both the University of Minnesota (Twin-Cities) during his undergraduate years and later at the University of Wisconsin (Madison). Mamoon also served as the Entertainment Coordinator for the 2003-2005 ISNA Conventions. He chaired the United Way effort for Mercy Health System and was selected as a Delegate for the People to People Delegation to Russia and Estonia for Health Administration." [1]
