George Foulkes
Lord George Foulkes "is a Labour Member of the House of Lords and of the Scottish Parliament.
"He was first elected as an MP in South Ayrshire in 1979, and served as an MP for a total of 26 years. He served in the Foreign Affairs Select Committee and the Council of Europe, and later was opposition spokesperson on Foreign Affairs from l983-92, then for Defence from l992-93 and then on Overseas Development from l994-97. He was Under Secretary at the Department for International Development from 1997-2001, then Minister of State for Scotland until May 2002. He was then a UK delegate to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Assembly of the Western European Union.
"He retired from Parliament in 2005, when he was elevated to the Peerage. As a Lord, George represented the Labour Party on the Executive of the Socialist International until 2007. He serves as President of the Caribbean-Britain Business Council, and Chairs several all party groups on Caribbean matters. He has also been a member of the Intelligence and Security Committee since 2007.
"On May 2007 he was elected to the Scottish Parliament representing the Lothians Region, and is a member of the Public Audit Committee." [1]
