Lindsey E. Loving

Lindsey E. Loving is Director of Food Ingredient Communications at the International Food Information Council (IFIC), an industry-funded public relations arm of the food, beverage and agricultural industries. At IFIC, Loving is responsible for "developing educational tools and other materials on food ingredient topics to a variety of audiences; speaking at health association conferences; conducting consumer research initiatives; and coordinating media briefings and other outreach to journalists."[1] She joined IFIC in 2007.[2]

Education and Experience

Loving graduated with a Bachelors of Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from James Madison University in 2000. Following graduation, she served as a hosting sales specialist for UUNET Technologies for two years.[3] From 2002-2003, she worked as a marketing assistant for the law firm Finnegan Henderson. Then, in 2003, she became an Industry Marketing Senior Associate for Grant Thornton LLP, a job she held until 2005.

Additionally, she has presented at the School Nutrition Association (SNA), the DC Metropolitan Area Dietetic Association (DCMADA), and the American Dietetic Association (ADA).

About IFIC

The International Food Information Council (IFIC) describes its mission as being to "effectively communicate science-based information on food safety and nutrition to health and nutrition professionals, educators, journalists, government officials and others providing information to consumers."[4]

IFIC is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit communications organization based in Washington, DC. It also receives contributions and grants from other associations, academic institutions, and government agencies. [Reference:, "IFIC FAQs," accessed October 2011] Its staff members hail from government agencies, media, major journalism, communications, dietetics, food science backgrounds, industry groups such as the Sugar Association and the National Soft Drink Association, and it has information on its Foundation website ( on the science around various nutrients and ingredients, including but not limited to monosodium glutamate, aspartame (Nutrasweet), food dyes, and olestra. The IFIC Foundation also runs the childhood obesity prevention website,, with games and recipes for kids.[5]

While the group's name implies that it operates internationally, on its website IFIC states that its primary focus is the U.S. "Based in Washington, DC, the IFIC Foundation and IFIC focus primarily on U.S. issues. It also participates in an informal network of independent food information organizations in Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada, Japan and Latin America," it states.[4]
