Leila Emara

Ambassador Leila Emara "is a career diplomat. She was Ambassador of Egypt to Bulgaria and non-resident Ambassador to Macedonia. She has also served in the Egyptian Cabinet of State Minister of Foreign Affairs and at the Permanent Missions of Egypt to the United Nations in Geneva and New York. Ambassador Emara has represented Egypt in various United Nations/Non-Aligned, African and Arab International and Regional meetings and conferences including the United Nation's Women International Conferences in Nairobi and Beijing, the Special Political Committee and the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, as well as the Security Council. Ambassador Emara had also joined the International Committee of the Red Cross (Legal Department) in Geneva in 1971.

"Throughout her career, she has participated extensively in the negotiations and drafting of international conventions in the fields of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, namely the 2 Additional protocols to the 1949 Geneva Conventions on the Protection Of the Victims of War and the Convention on the Rights of the Child."
