Kurt Schmoke
Kurt L. Schmoke "has been Dean of Howard University School of Law since January 1, 2003. From 1999 to 2002, Dean Schmoke was a partner with the international law firm of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering. Dean Schmoke served as Mayor of Baltimore from 1987-1999. Highlights of his administration include adult literacy programs, educational initiatives, housing improvement and neighborhood revitalization. The Clinton administration recognized Baltimore as a “top performer” among Empowerment Zone cities. Dean Schmoke started his legal career with Piper & Marbury in 1976. In 1977, he was a member of President Carter’s White House Domestic Policy Staff. After returning to Baltimore in 1978 as an Assistant United States Attorney, Dean Schmoke was elected State's Attorney in 1982.
