About ALEC |
---|
ALEC is a corporate bill mill. It is not just a lobby or a front group; it is much more powerful than that. Through ALEC, corporations hand state legislators their wishlists to benefit their bottom line. Corporations fund almost all of ALEC's operations. They pay for a seat on ALEC task forces where corporate lobbyists and special interest reps vote with elected officials to approve “model” bills. Budget Earmark Transparency Bill Co-Introduction

The report must contain all of the following: a list of all earmarks; the cost of each earmark; and the beneficiary of each earmark. If the beneficiary is an individual, LFB must identify the assembly and senate district in which the beneficiary resides. If the beneficiary is an entity, LFB must identify the assembly and senate district in which the beneficiary is located, incorporated, or organized. With respect to an amendment to a biennial budget bill, LFB must identify the representative to the assembly or senator who proposed the earmark."[4] (SB-114)* (Compare with ALEC's "Act Relating to Creating a Searchable Budget Database for State Spending Model Language")

According to the press release disseminated by his staff, he attended the conference through a private scholarship and his own funding.[6]
