Joseph B. Bruns
Joseph B. Bruns is the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of WETA.
"Joseph B. Bruns, executive vice president and chief operating officer, has more than 30 years' experience in management with almost half spent in the broadcasting industry. Bruns oversees the management of WETA's daily operations as well as technology and strategic planning.
"Prior to joining WETA in 2001, Bruns was chief administrative officer and chief financial officer for public broadcaster KQED in San Francisco for three years. In that position, he oversaw financial, information technology, human resource, and building and administrative areas. During his tenure at KQED, he led the station's significant growth in financial strength and the planning for its conversion to digital broadcasting and production systems.
"In the mid-eighties he worked with the United States Information Agency, first as the director of administration for the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs, then as director of the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program and Hubert Humphrey Fellowship programs, and then director of personnel policy, returning in 1996 as chief information officer.
"Bruns held senior positions with Voice of America for six years starting in 1988, serving as acting director from 1993 to 1994 after having been chief of staff and deputy director. Bruns then became director of International Broadcasting, with oversight of Voice of America, Radio Free Europe, Radio and TV Marti and WorldNet Television. He has also held positions as a management analyst with the National Endowment for the Humanities and as a human resource specialist with the Department of the Navy and the U.S. Public Health Service.
"Bruns served in the United States Navy in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969." [1]
