Jonathan C. Eastvold

Jonathan C. Eastvold, Ph.D., "graduated summa cum laude from Wheaton College with majors in political science and Biblical and theological studies, and a minor in history. He went on to receive his M.A. in politics in 2002 and his Ph.D. in 2006, both from Princeton University. His dissertation, "God, the State, and War: Toward a Containment Strategy for Religious Militancy," assessed the role played by religion in five conflicts in Europe and the United States.

"From 1999 to 2000, Dr. Eastvold served as special assistant to the president of the newly-established International Center for Religion and Diplomacy. In 1998, he interned for the U.S. Department of State in the Office of the Coordinator for East European Assistance. He currently serves as a legislative researcher for the state of Illinois. In addition to his work on religious militancy, he has written on a wide range of topics, including state economic development, environmental issues, utility taxes and regulations, health policy, Central Asia, and religion and politics more generally. He served on CFIA's executive steering committee from the Council's inception in 2002 through 2006, and in 2003 he chaired a CFIA taskforce on adult Christian education that designed a Sunday School curriculum on faith and international affairs.
