Jim Turner
Representative Jim Turner, according to his Congressional biography, is "serving his fourth term in Congress representing the Second Congressional District of Texas. As the Ranking Member of the House Homeland Security Committee, Jim is working to protect the safety and security of the American people in the war on terrorism. As a member of the Armed Services Committee, he has served as the ranking member of the Terrorism Subcommittee."
Turner is also "a Co-Chair of the "Blue Dog" Coalition and is a member of the New Democrat Coalition, groups of moderate and conservative Democrats who work for fiscal responsibility through balanced budgets and lower taxes."
"Before his election to Congress, [Turner] served ten years in the Texas Senate and the Texas House."
Turner received both his "Bachelor's and Master's degrees in business and his law degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Captain. In his hometown of Crockett, Jim served as Mayor and President of the Chamber of Commerce and has been a Deacon and Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church."
