Jeremy Hardie
Jeremy Hardie "is the former chairman of WHSmith and the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation. He also is treasurer of the policy think-tank IPPR. " [1]
"Jeremy Hardie, studied Literae Humaniores (classics) at the University of Oxford at New College. He then switched to economics for a post-graduate degree at Nuffield College. He qualified as an accountant in 1965. However, he returned to Oxford, becoming a Fellow and Tutor in Economics at Keble College in 1968 following a year as a research fellow at Trinity College.
"In 1975, Hardie left Keble, to become partner in the accountants Dixon Wilson & Co and remained until 1982. He was a member of the Monopolies and Mergers Commission from 1976 to 1983, where he served as the Deputy Chairman between 1980 and 1983. He has chaired numerous companies, including the W H Smith Group (1994 -1999) and Loch Fyne Restaurants from (2002-2005). Additionally, he was chairman of the Centre for Economic Policy Research from 1984 to 1989. He has been the director of companies including John Swire & Sons Limited (1982 to 1998). Currently, Hardie is a research associate in the Centre for Philosophy of Natural and Social Science at the London School of Economics. In 2012, he published ‘Evidence Based Policy: A Practical Guide to Doing It Better’ with philosopher Nancy Cartwright."[2]
