"Football tycoon narrowly missed another Super Bowl berth; his Philadelphia Eagles were edged by Arizona in January's NFC Championship game. Born into well-to-do Boston family; grandfather Philip Smith (d. 1961) built family fortune through movie theatre operator General Cinema, investments. Jeffrey taught social policy at Boston U.; abandoned academia for bright lights of Hollywood. Founded Chestnut Hill Productions 1985; produced string of so-so films including "I Love You To Death" and "Foxfire," one of the first flicks to feature Angelina Jolie. Bought Eagles in 1994 from billionaire Norman Braman for $195 million. Estimated value today: $936 million. Serves on NFL's Finance, Broadcast, Super Bowl Advisory Committees. Helped cement deal to build $512 million, 68,500-seat Lincoln Financial Field 2001. Also serves as a director of the Autism Research Foundation and the Nancy Lurie Marks Family Foundation." [1]
