Jan Massey
Jan Massey "is a Consultant in Research Quality and Management. She is the immediate past Director of The University of Queensland's Office of Research and Postgraduate Studies. The position was responsible for 45 staff, the management of $150 million in external research contracts, human and animal ethics, research databases and information; and a diverse client group including 3000 academic staff, 400 external funding bodies; and 3700 postgraduate students. She is past National President of the Australasian Research Management Society and is currently a member of the International Committee of the Society. She is a member of the Queensland-Smithsonian Association, and the the Australasian Association for Institutional Research, and has undertaken research reviews of universities throughout Australia and New Zealand. Jan has published in journals such as the Journal of Institutional Research, delivered presentations on topics including Research in a Market Driven Environment: Implications for Access and Gender Equity in Universities and Research Misconduct: An Australian Universities Perspective and has been an invited speaker to numerous conferences including the National Science Foundation International Symposium on Accountability in Science Funding in Bejing, China. She has been on the organizing committee of three major conferences – “Investing in Research: Building on Ideas”; “Beyond Brain Drain: Mobility, Competitiveness and Scientific Excellence”; and “Internationalisation of Research: The big issues and opportunities of the decade for research leaders and managers.” Jan is an Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and was a member of The University of Queensland Senate for seven years. She is an Arts honours graduate of UQ and holds a Master of Administration degree from Griffith University. Past President, Australasian Research Management Society." [1]
