The International Foundation for Socio-Economic and Political Studies (The Gorbachev Foundation) "was created by Mikhail Gorbachev, former President of the USSR, in January 1992. Its inauguration took place in March 1992. The Foundation became one of the first independent think-tanks in the post-Soviet Russia.
"The Foundation is governed by the Executive Board, with Mikhail Gorbachev as President and Irina Virganskaya, his daughter, as Vice-President. The Foundation's main mission is to provide in-depth analysis of the evolving social, economic and political situation in Russia and in the world. The Foundation's aim is to help assert democratic values and moral, humanistic principles in the life of society." [1]
