The International Center for Advanced Renewable Energy and Sustainability (I-CARES) is a center within Washington University which states that it "encourages and coordinates University-wide and external collaborative research into biofuels and other alternative energy applications."[1]

One part of I-CARES is the Consortium for Clean Coal Utilization, a project announced by Washington University in December 2008 with the aim of bringing researchers "together to research clean coal technology, making St. Louis the nation's center for clean coal research."[2]
