Indianapolis Power & Light Company, also known as IPL or IPALCO, is a utility company providing electric service to the city of Indianapolis, Indiana. It is a subsidiary and largest utility of AES Corporation, which acquired it in 2000.[1]
Indianapolis Light and Heat Company and Merchant’s Heat and Light Company merged to create IPL in October 1926. IPL provides "retail electric service to more than 465,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in Indianapolis, Indiana and other central Indiana communities."[2]
