The Identity Cards Bill (UK 2004/5) was introduced to the House of Commons by Home Secretary David Blunkett on Monday 29th November, 2004 [1]. The Bill seeks to implement the UK National Identity Cards Scheme.
The launch of the Bill was seriously disrupted, from a public relations perspective, by the reporting of allegations the previous day that Blunkett had fast-tracked a visa application to allow his lover's Filipina nanny to stay in Britain. The story was broken by the Daily Telegraph, and the scandal has become known as "Nannygate". [2]
